UNICEF Now Accepts Donations in Ripple and Stellar

The French division of the United Nation’s Children’s Fund has indicated that it has now expanded the number of crypto-currencies it currently accepts as donations to include Stellar and Ripple.

The announcement is a follow-up to the charity’s GameChaingers initiative launched in February of this year, which is believed to have been the world’s first cryptocurrency-based humanitarian fundraiser. Gamers were invited to rent out unharnessed processing power from their graphics cards to mine collectively for Ethereum which was then subsequently used to part-finance the charity’s projects in Syria.

UNICEF’s Growing Crypto Portfolio

It appears, however, that the GameChaingers initiative has been so successful that UNICEF France has now decided to expand the number of crypto-currencies it accommodates to include Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dash, Ripple, Stellar, Monero and EOS.

Similar to the GameChaingers initiative, contributors can choose to either simply send donations to one of UNICEF’s cryptocurrency wallets or participate in on one of its collective mining operations – however, participation in mining operations is currently limited to Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dash and Monero.

Cryptocurrencies “represent an innovation in both solidarity and fund-raising that few charities are currently exploring, but the trend is rising,” states Sébastien Lyon, Director General of UNICEF France.
